Friday night late I decided I was NOT going to get on the computer over the weekend + I had an online project I needed Steve to work on for me + I had some works in progress that really needed my attention. I did really really good the first 24 hrs! Then my BlackBerry started going off and one by one I was receiving messages from FB that so and so wanted me to "Become a Fan"! I thought want in the world, so I finally gave in and checked and lo and behold Alyson Stanfield, the one and only Art Biz Coach had posted "Facebook fan pages: what, why, and how" on her blog. I started laughing….Alyson said it and people were following her lead. Read what she had to say by clicking the link above.
I was so excited I had actually done something before Alyson said it was a good thing and I wanted to make a post right then, but I was determined I would not get sucked into the computer or my BlackBerry over the weekend, so I waited until today after my morning walk, shower and checking in on Facebook and Twitter.
Back in July I had made my FB "Fan" page and with the help of Lisa Call of Make Big Art's helpful blog posts which Alyson links to in her blog post finished it up. I did somewhat good for a few weeks and then things out of my control kept me from keeping on top of things.
Above is a screen shot of my FB Fan Page. You can click on it or the FB Badge in the left sidebar to be taken to Debbie Overton Designs fan page. Even though I have neglected my page for the past 3 months I have shown a steady increase in fans and I am so very thankful for each and every one of you.
There still seems to be an issue or atleast with some that once you upload a photo to FB, that FB has the right to use that photo for any reason anytime with your permission. Well I can tell you that can happen any place on the internet. When you upload to the internet you are opening yourself up for anyone to take and use your artwork not because you have given them permission, but because there are people out there that will do just that. You can always watermark your photos and add copyright information, but as they say, where there is a will there is a way. You have people out there, that do this as a business as well as for fun just to see how far they can get. This is one of the reasons I do not upload everything I do. Once it is there you are open to anyone to copy, take, use or abuse your images and your artwork!
When I post to my blog it sends it to FB and Twitter or if I update my status on Twitter or Facebook it goes to the other. So with just one little action you are connecting with everyone that follows you in multiply networks. Now all I need to do is stay on top of it! Easier said than done sometimes!
I would love to have you join my fan page and if you have one please send me an invite.
